The Grove’s “movie theater of the future” opens Friday
WESLEY CHAPEL – The latest renovated and reimagined element of the Grove at Wesley Chapel opens to the public Friday.
Dubbed the “movie theater of the future,” the Grove Theater, Bistro and Entertainment offers patrons “a movie-going experience unlike any other, according to a press release from the property’s ownership group Mishorim Gold Properties.

The former Cobb Theater in Wesley Chapel now features a new location for Side Splitters Comedy Club, spin bike classes in front of a movie screen, plush reclining seats, a sushi bar and an upscale bistro.
The former Cobb location was where, in 2014, Curtis Reeves, 77, shot Chad Oulson after an argument escalated inside the Cobb Grove 16 movie theaters over Oulson’s use of a cell phone during the previews. The theater closed in 2020 after Cobb filed for bankruptcy.

The new tenants are Side Splitters Comedy Club, Bay Coffee Company, The Brick Jungle, Chicago Bar & Bistro, and an axe-throwing range.
“We are providing the local area with the perfect blend of retail, food, and entertainment — all in one location,” said developer and landlord Mark Gold in a press release. “Holiday Mall is going to become the heartbeat of the Holiday and New Port Richey communities. It’s going to be the place to go for families and friends for live music, entertainment, service and nightlife.”
Gold purchased the Holiday Mall in August for $8.56 million. He is putting $4.6 million to $6 million into improving the complex.
That includes the complete renovation of a former bank into a restaurant and bar. The owners, who operate three restaurants in Chicago, will offer a full restaurant and bar that features an open-air deck with outdoor lightning to host live music and feature local bands. The same owners will open up an urban axe-throwing range.
Side Splitters Comedy Club, which recently signed to open up at Gold’s other property, the Grove at Wesley Chapel, will bring in comedians from around the country. The venue, which is undergoing more than $600,000 in renovations, will offer seating for approximately 300 patrons.
